World's First Ryzen-Powered Gaming Laptop Is Up For Pre-order
At Computex, AMD has shown off the first Ryzen-Powered Gaming laptop - made by Asus and its an 8-core CPU Beast. Its base specification is more than powerful enough for a modern AAA Gaming on full HD, Freesync17.3' Screen.
AMDs Ryzen 7 CPUs have been available for desktop PCs for quite a while, they have also managed to cause quite a stir with some very impressive performance results. Ryzen has been a huge success for AMD and while these processors are already well-established in the desktop space, we are still waiting on laptop versions. Fortunately, it doesn’t look like we’ll be kept waiting much longer, as the first Ryzen-powered gaming laptop has gone up for pre-order at UK retail. It’s an ASUS ROG laptop, featuring a Ryzen 1700 and an AMD GPU.
The freshly unveiled Asus ROG Strix GL702ZC, a 17.3-inch laptop which has a ton of power under the bonnet courtesy of an octo-core Ryzen 7 1700 processor. That’s the top spec version, mind you, and there will be lower-end variants of the notebook featuring six-core Ryzen 5 1600 and quad-core Ryzen 3 1200 CPUs.
As for the graphics card, there’s a full discrete AMD Radeon RX 580 with 8GB of video RAM on board.
Full specification of the laptop are as follows:-
- Ryzen 1700 8c/16t with the 3.0GHz base, 3.7GHZ boost clocks.
- 16GB DDR4 2400MHz RAM
- RX 580 4GB GPU
- 256GB M.2 SSD
- 1TB HDD
- 1080p 17.3″ display with Freesync and 60hz refresh rate.
- Windows 10 Home
- Two-year warranty
The RX 580, in this case, managed to score 13,846 points in 3D Mark 11 P-score, which edges out the GTX 1060’s score of 11,500. On top of that, the folks over at Overclockers UK have benchmark results for the Ryzen 7 1700 too, which scored 1410 points in the Cinebench multi-core test, edging out Intel’s Core i7 7700HQ, which scored 737 points.
The ASUS ROG GL702ZC-GC104T gaming laptop is up for pre-order now at OCUK. These laptops are expected to begin shipping soon.
